Learning to live with an illness, especially a chronic one, involves a complete shift in mindset and lifestyle. This requires acceptance, the ability to adapt and the willingness to find ways to proactively manage the condition.
Sometimes it can be difficult to navigate all of this on ones own or individuals may feel that they need an outlet to express their feelings outside of their immediate family and caregivers who they perceive to already have taken on a lot.
It takes time to accept that this is how life will be going forward. There will be things that the individual can no longer access and even day to day life may look radically different.
Counselling can help with all of this as well as to help you reconnect with what brings you joy and meaning and enhance your wellbeing, however different life may look, so that you can live a fulfilling life.
